Curb RESCUE of Hover Board

These hover boards were in a bad state and sitting on the curb, potentially destined for the landfill. Never fear because ingenuity and WD-40 is here. :) After inspection and tear-down we found that one of the boards had a good battery, electronics and wheels, while the other board had a good frame and skins. The only issue with the donor frame was that the center section was seized, preventing the ability to turn. We made the swap of the electronics, routing all of the power and signal lines through the center portion, and somehow everything just fit even though they were slightly different models. The final piece of the puzzle to solve was the frame center joint which was seized. Even with a fair amount of force, the rusty joint which was weathered by neglect would not move. So like many others would I reached for the WD-40, gave it some soaking, and we were able to get it moving. We plan to keep the hoverboard going with the WD-40 bike lube which we have handy for our bikes because I feel that is probably more appropriate for longer term. My son and I love to fix things. It's a great learning opportunity and it allows us to have some fun. Thanks for reading
