Cutting Edge Repair: Reviving a Faithful Chain Saw: From Dull to Sharp

I will show how WD-40 was able to help me repair a 1958 Bolens chain saw. 77 CCS and 24 lbs. I hope to show that I am up for the challenge to show my repair is going to be a cut above the rest.(pun intended) My repair job starts off with a chain saw that has been idle so many years. It belonged to my late grandfather who was a lumberjack and cut at leat a cord a day to up to 3. He always took care of this machine as it was his livelyhood and bread and butter. With a little precision, patience and maybe a little dedication to the sentimental value of this saw and the need to cut this old dead tree down..I hope to show from start to finish this repair. I meticulously disassembled some parts, i cleaned, sprayed and hoped for the best.Wd-40 will hopefully show cost effective, eco friendly and efficient solution to repair. I had in mind sustainable thinking and give new life to old tools and gadgets. I hope to show repair and reuse can be fun, and we all could have a rfepair revolution. With a little grit we could have from rust to lots of tool revitalization and SAW through this old dead tree. Repairing an old chain saw with WD-40 is so much cheaper than buying a new one.Extending the life of the chain saw towards rerpair and reuse instead of discard and buy new. My repair idea in hopes to breathe new life into this old saw.

Step 1

I took a good look at the state of the chain saw and immediately got to work. I sprayed generous amounts of WD-40 on the chain to lubricate, protect and get rid of any moisture. I sprayed pivot points, chain brake, tensioner, the metal parts, of the chain, bar and sprockets, I also sprayed extra into prone areas to rust and corrosion. My goal was to transform this old faitful saw into a reliable tool once more.

Step 2

getting in all the little seized up parts.

Step 3

everything is unseized.

Step 4

cutting smooth

Step 5

crash..

Step 6

all blocked up and nice and dry for bonfires.
