Freeing the Rig: WD-40 Eases My Double-Nut Bolt

My rigging device relies on a bolt secured with two nuts to ensure a strong and stable connection. However, over time, the threads on the bolt had started to bind, making it increasingly difficult to tighten or loosen the nuts. Adjusting the rigging became a slow and frustrating process, and I was worried about damaging the threads if I forced them too much.
Knowing WD-40's ability to penetrate and lubricate threaded fasteners, I decided to give it a try. I directed the spray nozzle along the entire length of the bolt's threads, making sure to saturate the area where the nuts were binding.
After letting it sit for just a moment, I tried turning the nuts. The difference was immediate and significant. They now moved much more freely along the threads, making adjustments quick and easy. The binding was gone, and I could tighten and loosen the nuts smoothly without any risk of damage. That simple application of WD-40 had made a critical part of my rigging device much more user-friendly and reliable.
Step-by-Step Guide: Freeing a Bolt with Two Nuts Using WD-40
Here's how I used WD-40 to make the nuts on my rigging device bolt move freely:
Step 1: Identify the Binding Nuts and Bolt Threads
Locate the bolt with the two nuts that are difficult to turn. Observe the threads for any signs of rust or grime.
Step 2: Gather Your WD-40
Ensure you have your can of WD-40 Multi-Use Product ready.
Step 3: Apply WD-40 to the Bolt Threads
Aim the WD-40 nozzle along the entire length of the bolt's threads, focusing on the areas where the nuts are binding. Apply a generous and even coat.
Step 4: Allow Penetration (Short Wait)
Let the WD-40 sit on the threads for a short time, about a minute or two, to allow it to penetrate and loosen any binding agents.
Step 5: Attempt to Turn the Nuts
Carefully try turning both nuts along the bolt's threads. You should notice they move much more easily now.
Step 6: Work the Nuts Back and Forth
Turn the nuts up and down the threads several times to help distribute the WD-40 and ensure smooth movement.
Step 7: Repeat Application (If Necessary)
If the nuts are still stiff in certain areas, apply another small amount of WD-40 to those spots and continue working the nuts.
Step 8: Wipe Away Excess (Optional)
Once the nuts move freely, you can wipe away any excess WD-40 with a clean cloth.
Now adjusting your rigging device should be much easier and more efficient!
