Hooked on Fixing: Untangling the Mystery of the Jammed Reel

I will show you how I repaired my fishing reel that was seizing up. The bearings were rusty and seizing, so my reel was not spinning to performance level. I was up for the challenge, and the trout were biting at this time of the year.

Step 1: Spinning Out of Control reel

A quick inspection revealed some rusty spots. Examined my reel, it needed some wd 40 care. I got ready for the task and thinking of my first feed of trout in the future.

Step 2: Diagnosing Reel Performance

I took the reel apart and used wd 40 precision pen on all the bearings and the cog inside the reel for the handle. I noticed really right away the smoothness and the spin were in tip top shape when I finished.

Step 3: Hooked on Trout

Certainly my lucky day. First cast and a bite right away. I reeled him in nice and easy. The thrill of reeling in that trout!! I felt a rush of excitement as the line tightened and the rod bent, I anticipated trout for supper.

Step 4: Reel in, cook up, Bon appetite!

The trout was delicious, fresh out of the water. My repair was easy enough to do with a little patience and a new found new product to my kit....the WD precision pen.
