The Luxury Handbag Revivalist
I love to thrift, I love recycling, reusing and all the very cool finds I incorporate in my home, clothes and art I find in thrifting. One particular day thrifting I came across a gorgeous couture brand name sought after bag. I could see the stripes and a well thrifted person like myself I picked it up with much glee..exc ept for a little hole it looked very good, the zipper looked perfect, all the zippers looked perfect in fact. It felt very light and I did notice rather dry to the touch like a bit cracky. I quickly payed the 4$ required as it went down as back pack. I got home to show my sister and brag I got a Gucci at the local non profit thrift store. I went to open to show her the openings and then I realized they were like melted shut, very shiny and perfect looking but non opening. Now i do like a couture bag and know this was a good deal for 4$ but I was not planning on wearing a non functional bag only because it was couture??? so zippers were stuck some of them and one whole part of bag was seized shut. My Dad hearing the laughter from my sister comes to my rescue and says..WD-40, its the ultimate problem solver. He comes back with a can almost immediately and i got some cotton balls and got busy googling why zipper was seized but not rusty..Ill tell the reasoning in conclusion, I dont want to give away the end result.
Step 1
Fixed a small whole and lubricated stuck zippers with WD-40. I sprayed on cotton ball and then on zipper giving it lubrication. The bag was very dry aand light, it was also in very good condition otherwise.
Step 2
smalll amounts were used on the zipper, and applied n coaxed it tomope. it started to glde and a could feel grit underneath the cotton ball.I removed some sand..and more sand, the finest sand was causing the problem it seemed. Then I rhought this bag probably came from a real hot climate, plus the sand and dried out that most likely caused the friction and sticking. This seized bag now is a stylish sensation.Wd-40 is the best fixer for designer price tag repairs!! who knew it could help in making a Fashion Statement. This clever hack could help a lot of people repair stuck zippers in stead of throwing away. I dont think I need or want to take it to a tailor or seamstress if the repair ended in a most favorable resort. Plus the thought of the 4$ price tag and a couple squirts of WD-40 was all that was needed made this thrift one of the best.
